Explanations for the terms used in our documentation
Blink refers to the mechanism by which keywords are passed back to us using hidden beacons or active links. It’s a way of mapping your page’s keywords to backlinks.
A beacon is a hidden request that fires automatically when your page loads.
It doesn’t display anything to visitors, but it quietly sends us your
keywords with referrer information. Beacons can be implemented with
invisible <img> tags or script tags.
A script beacon is another silent feed of keyword information. The script
itself doesn’t execute JavaScript—it simply triggers a request in the same
way as an <img> beacon, passing along keyword data.
An active link takes you to our page that maps keywords to your referrer page and shows backlinks you can use to return. This is the best way to verify that the keywords you assign uniquely identify your page and result in backlinks.
